The D.E. Turf Sports Complex is a fantastic example of how Sports Tourism can impact a local economy.

The Complex was at a similar stage of land acquisition and conducting feasibility studies as EBHB is currently in. Feasibility studies—there were six prior to opening—projected 10 tournaments would generate $18 million in economic impact. While it’s too soon to tell what doubling the estimated amount of events means for certain, the anecdotal evidence suggests DE Sports represents a financial windfall for the state. That level of economic impact would benefit Butte County and the surrounding areas immensely.

After opening in April 2017, the complex’s Executive Director Chris Giacomucci stated, “the site has drawn 20,000 visitors and filled 2,500 hotel rooms from more than 20 states and Canada. That’s in our first six months operating.”
