Health, Wellness, and Physical Activity Task Force

Health and Wellness | September 25, 2020

EBHB received funding from the North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) through the Aaron Rodgers NorCal Recovery Fund to coordinate planning and programming to reduce youth and adult trauma through an increase in sports and physical activity as post-disaster intervention strategies.

The following were the overall project goals and objectives:

Goal 1:  Build Healthy Community Initiatives through collaboration and an integrated approach to increase physical activity as an intervention to reduce youth and adult trauma post-disaster.
Goal 2:  Implement place-based recovery strategies to facilitate increasing sports, recreation, play, physical activity and create health-enhancing community infrastructure.
Objective 1:  Create a Health, Wellness, Physical Activity Task Force comprised of stakeholders in health and wellness, education and sports to build healthy community initiatives addressing long-term recovery.
Objective 2:  Identify/coordinate needs, goals, and activities of regional stakeholders in health, education, and youth sports to address trauma reduction post-Camp Fire.
Objective 3:  Develop an implementation plan for supporting models and space for healthy communities, including sports and physical activity as post disaster interventions.

The Health, Wellness, and Physical Activity Task Force was formed in August 2019. The Task Force was comprised of stakeholders in health and wellness, education and sports to build healthy community initiatives addressing long-term recovery.

Overview of Task Force:

  • 16 different organizations
  • 40 individuals participating in meetings
  • As word of Task Force and purpose spread, new individuals and organizations have joined
  • Three Task Force meetings –
    • August 28, 2019,
    • October 15, 2019,
    • January 15, 2020 – agreed to continue meeting.

One of the goals was to develop an implementation plan for supporting models and space for healthy communities, including sports and physical activity as post disaster interventions.

The Task Force recommended that EBHB assume a leadership role in a public awareness campaign with common messaging around the role of physical activity as a vehicle for trauma reduction.  The Public Awareness Campaign would also highlight the 8 Plays from Project Play.

The Task Force embraces the National Recreation and Park Program- RX for Play/Parks and recommended implementation.

The following diagram represents the work of the Task Force.
